MICROGRAPHIC SERVICES ===================== S.M. Smith 24 May 1995 (revised 16 June 1999) Geological Data Center Scripps Institution Of Oceanography FLOWFILM MICROFILMING: Using a MicroInstruments Flow Film Rotary Vacuum Drum Camera, we are able to reduce graphic records with dimensions up to 23 inches wide and several hundred feet in length down to a 35mm continuous flow image on high resolution, black and white, silver emulsion non-perforated film. Reduction ratios can be times 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20. The process is particularly suited for rolled records such as those from echosounders, seismic reflection profilers and magnetometers as well as fan folded computer printout. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: * Production of working copy silver emulsion direct duplicate films * Record organization for sequential filming and production of indexes which are then filmed to list film contents * Test strips for evaluation of process and output * Page sized xerographic blowback prints EQUIPMENT: * Camera: Microinstruments Corp. FMF Microcorder (35mm x 100 feet) * Duplicator: ITEK 303DL, quartz iodide (35mm x 1000 feet) * Film Processor: Kodak Prostar (35mm x 1000 feet) * Reader/Printer: Minolta RP605Z Lenses: 7.5X, 9X-16X zoom, 13X-27X zoom Media: 100' roll film (motorized transport) Microfiche holder Printer: 8.5 x 11" xerographic prints (small charge for prints) MATERIALS: * Archive (original) film: Kodak Imagelink HQ, 35mm x 100' non-perforated black and white (resolution 220 lines/mm) * Working Duplication film: Kodak direct duplicating #2468, non-perforated (35mm x 1000') * Chemicals: Kodak Prostar Developer and Fixer PERSONNEL: Dale Newhouse, GDC's micrographics technician, has had more than twenty years experience filming and processing microfilms of marine geological/geophysical and other types of records and has been involved in collecting these data on numerous geological and geophysical cruises.
